Alanna Bennett is a screenwriter, author, and culture writer living in Los Angeles. Born in Hollywood and raised in Portland, Alanna studied Cinema Studies at Oberlin College and seeks to tell stories that move conversations forward while providing a balm to the daily stresses of human existence. She has written feature films for major studios and has written for television in the writers rooms of XO, KITTY (ensemble YA dramedy), ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (sci-fi drama), and THE SECOND BEST HOSPITAL IN THE GALAXY (animated comedy), as well as on her own development. She has a two-book deal with Knopf, and her debut novel, THE EDUCATION OF KIA GREER, comes out in May 2025.
As an entertainment reporter, culture writer, and essayist, Alanna’s work has appeared on BuzzFeed and BuzzFeed News (where she worked for years), as well as the New York Times, Teen Vogue, The Cut, Vulture, Refinery29, Eater, TV Guide, and many more. She’s written cover stories profiling celebrities, bled into essays about childhood homelessness, smiled through public love letters to friends, dissected the rom-com too many times to count, and reported on the Me Too movement, representation, Captain America’s butt, and much, much more. When it comes to all of the above, across every one of her many careers, she is only just getting started.
THE EDUCATION OF KIA GREER comes out from Knopf in Spring 2025, and there’s more coming after that! Sign up below for updates on these projects.
Alanna’s screenwriting work is repped by Grandview (Tracy Kopulsky) and CAA (Stephanie Smalling, Katie Laner, Ann Blancard).
Alanna is an occasional but enthusiastic podcast host and guest. Alanna co-created and hosted A SIMPLE PODCAST, a limited series deep-diving into the 2018 classic A SIMPLE FAVOR. It attracted interviews with Paul Feig, Blake Lively, and more. Alanna has also been a guest on THIRST AID KID, BUFFERING THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, PODCAST LIKE IT’S 1999, NICOLE’S GREY’S ANATOMY, LONG LIVE THE HART, THE BONES ZONE, and MORE.
